The Crossroads Mall: a prologue

The Crossroads Mall first opened on September 10, 1960 and closed nearly 60 years to the day in preparation for a new development on the northwest corner of 72nd and Dodge. The Omaha City Council recently approved the $80 million in TIF request for the mixed-use development that will include commercial, residential, and entertainment.

As Omaha developments typically spread out away from our urban core, versus up, we look forward to the possibilities this new development will have in connecting to other modes of transportation. Until we see how that plays out we’ll start to look back at the original Crossroads Mall, what Omaha looked like before it was built, and how it was a platform for growth to the west rather than growth within.
